Today’s blog is about open days!! As you might know our next open day is on July 5th (Others are 17th Sep & 25th Oct) If your attending, well let me give you a few tips =]
Now it’s never nice to go to new places alone, and a lot of new information can sometimes go over your head so my first top tip is to 1.Bring a parent along. They can help filter the information to what’s important to you and give advice on if they think the university is right for you. (But ultimately it is your choice)
Open days are great they give you the chance to explore the place you will be learning. See the lecture halls, the accommodation, the facilities, the SU etc. Which brings me to my second top tip.
2. Have a campus tour!
(I imagine that being said with a *ding sound*) Included with this, have an accommodation tour as well!
If you know which subject you want to study, but all you’ve read about it is off of UCAS, our prospectus or our website then I’m sure your going to have questions. Especially if there are two similar courses and you don’t know which one is right for you. Yep you guessed it, here’s top tip number 3.
*ding* 3. Have a 1 to 1 with the lecturer on your course!
Doing so means you can ask all the questions you like with the lecturer who’s actually teaching you the subject, who’s going to know more abut your subject course than them?
When at the campus you are surrounded by students, people that know what studying as USW is like because they are doing it. Now some of them are busy but I know of some (particularly the ones wearing red) that would love to speak about their experience (and are getting paid to be there too)
*ding* 4. Speak to a student ambassador about their experience!
Getting first hand details on the experience of studying in the uni will be invaluable to you.
This is somewhere you’ll be living for 3 years so you need to be comfortable. Why not go and check out the local area, see what shops they have and what clubs you can go to on student night (Wednesday). Finding out which supermarket is closest is a good idea too.
*ding* 5. Check out the local area!
Well I hope these tips help you out and USW is the place that’s right for you =]
